The annual Christena Swim Camp, hosted by the Swim to Win organisation, began on Tuesday, July 14, at Yachtsman’s Beach.
Chief Coordinator Terri Andrews confirmed that the camp will conclude on Friday, July 17, with a certificate presentation for more than forty participants.
Now in its sixth year, the initiative is sponsored, as always, by the Nevis Island Administration.
Sessions take place both mornings and afternoons, where children learn fundamental swimming skills including floating, treading water, kicking, push‑offs, and proper swimming strokes.
International swim instructor Anne Mc Lindon designed the program.
It was established in memory of the historic Christena disaster, which Ms Andrews also highlighted the recent incident involving the Apple Syder ferry as a timely reminder of why island residents need to learn how to swim.
She added that participants showing interest and potential will receive advanced training to prepare them to eventually represent St. Kitts and Nevis in international competitions.
