By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 63 year old maintenance worker of Apollo Street has reported the theft of his washing machine from his fenced yard.
According to the report, the man left home around 6am on Saturday, August 22, leaving his blue and white twin tub washing machine by the back step. When he returned around 6pm, it was gone.
He told police he purchased the machine from Courts about five years ago for $700, and that he could identify it because he had changed the timer and screwed it on top, and had tied a string to the damaged drain lever.
His yard is fenced on all four sides with a metal gate.
The following morning, riding along Albert Hoy Street, he spotted what he believed was his machine at a house known for repairing washing machines and refrigerators.
He was unable to speak with the owner until Wednesday, when he was told the machine had been obtained from a named individual. By then the top had been removed and the owner said he was using it for parts.
A 62 year old labourer of Belama Phase 5 has been detained pending charges for theft.
