By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have formally arrested and charged 19-year-old Leon Emmanuel St. Clair of Belize City with the murder of Kareem Garcia, who was gunned down in Cotton Tree Village last week.
Garcia, 23, of Unitedville Village, was killed at around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, while he was with coworkers in Cotton Tree.
Police said Garcia was approached by two men travelling on a motorcycle. One of the men reportedly produced a firearm and fired several shots, fatally injuring Garcia.
Garcia was reportedly working with a contractor carrying out road works near the King’s Children’s Home when the shooting occurred.
At a police briefing following the murder, Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith said investigators had not yet established a motive. Police also confirmed that Garcia was known to them and had a firearm-related matter before the court.
Police have now announced that St. Clair has been formally arrested and charged with Garcia’s murder. The charge remains an allegation until proven in court.
