Weather experts monitor 2 disturbances in Atlantic

By Zoila Palma:  The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring two areas of disturbed weather over the Atlantic, including a tropical wave in the central tropical Atlantic that has a growing chance of developing into a tropical depression later this week.

The first system is located about 550 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, where disorganized showers and thunderstorms are associated with a tropical wave.

The NHC says environmental conditions are expected to become more favorable for development over the next few days as the system moves westward to west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic.

The system has a 40% chance of development within 48 hours and a 70% chance within seven days. If it develops, the NHC says a tropical depression will likely form during the latter half of this week.

Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure about 750 miles east-northeast of Bermuda has also produced an area of showers and thunderstorms that has become somewhat more organized.

The system has a 20% chance of development over the next 48 hours and through seven days as it moves eastward at about 20 mph.

The NHC expects the system to encounter cooler waters later this week, which should end its chances of formation by Thursday.
