Nivea is in remission from leukemia. “I’m very grateful,” she told Tamron Hall this week. The R&B icon tearfully shared the news while appearing on Tamron’s daytime show on October 7.

The moment was touching, joyous and the type of celebrity update fans of the singer were waiting for.

HelloBeautiful first reported on Nivea’s health update in July, after she shared it during an interview with Cadillac Chronicles. While on the social media show, Nivea revealed her diagnosis while answering a question about what she was most thankful for. Her answer turned into a candid conversation about life, the time we have and the lessons she is carrying with her.

Nivea said then, “To be more present in the moment is definitely something I’ve learned.” The singer continues to live by that outlook.

She’s excited to be in remission and thankful to her village, including Lil Wayne and The Dream, for supporting her. Nivea sat down with Tamron and her doctor to discuss the experience. Rocking a red, white and blue tweed look, the singer was glowing.

Nivea Is Returning To Music With A Major Project

Nivea is also not wasting any time as she manages her health and discovers more about herself, her interests and her music.

Speaking to Tamron, she announced she is dropping her first major music project in about 20 years. Nivea has released a few songs over the years. However, working with a producer and a full team again is something new. She could not stop gushing as she talked about the project.

Nivea is also learning new skills. We love that for her.

“I’ve always had an engineering mind,” she told Tamron and the audience. Nivea shared that she enrolled in school for audio engineering. She joked that taking night classes helps her keep up with the curriculum.

“I’m in love with sound in general,” she added.

Her new album will feature “a lot more very relatable topics.” It will also sound “a lot more soulful than people have heard from me in the past.” The “Don’t Mess With My Man” singer also dropped a taste of her new song live. After revealing that she is working with a vocal coach for the first time, Nivea sang part of “Ferris Wheel.”

“You made me a villain. Think I’m the reason why you ain’t touching a million,” she sang. Watch the interview and song interview below.
