UPPC targets international market after securing ISO certification

Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification, a development its management says will strengthen the institution’s competitiveness in the regional and international markets.

The certification, announced in Entebbe on September 14, confirms that UPPC’s quality management system meets internationally recognised standards for consistent service delivery, accountability and continuous improvement.

UPPC managing director Prof Sudi Nangoli said the certification marked an important step in the Corporation’s transformation from a traditional government printer into a modern printing and publishing institution.

“This certification demonstrates that UPPC is operating in accordance to internationally recognised quality standards. It strengthens confidence in our services and positions us to compete more effectively for opportunities both at home and in the international market,” Nangoli said.

UPPC is Uganda’s official Government publisher, responsible for producing and disseminating official information, including the Uganda Gazette, laws and legislation. It also provides commercial printing and publishing services to public and private-sector clients.

The certification comes as the Corporation seeks to modernise its operations, improve customer experience and expand its business beyond government work.

Rebecca Nyakairu, the director of business development, said the certification was the result of deliberate efforts to improve internal systems and make quality a central part of the Corporation’s operations.

“ISO certification is ultimately about the customer. We have strengthened our processes to deliver greater consistency, efficiency and accountability, while creating a culture of continuous improvement across UPPC,” Nyakairu said.

The ISO 9001:2015 standard focuses on quality management systems and requires organisations to demonstrate their ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

For UPPC, the certification is expected to improve confidence among clients and strengthen its ability to compete for contracts in Uganda and abroad.

The Corporation said the achievement would also support efforts to improve efficiency and accountability in the delivery of printing and publishing services.
