An unidentified person was burnt beyond recognition when the pick-up he was driving crashed into a tree and burst into flames in the Okakarara area on Saturday morning.
Police head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa region senior inspector Maureen Mbeha says the person’s remains were retrieved from the vehicle and transported to the Otjiwarongo police mortuary before being transferred to Windhoek to be identified.
“It is suspected the lone driver of the vehicle lost control, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a tree near Otuvingo village in the Okakarara constituency in the early hours of Saturday morning,” Mbeha says.
Preliminary police investigations indicate the vehicle was travelling from the direction of Okaepe village towards Okakarara at the time of the accident.
Mbeha says the vehicle’s registration number plate and colour could not be established at the time, as it was destroyed by the fire.
Police investigations continue.
