By Zoila Palma: The United Democratic Party (UDP) is planning a public protest next Tuesday as Cabinet is expected to deliberate on the proposed acquisition of Smart/Speednet by Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL).
The UDP is calling on Belizeans to join the protest and voice their concerns over the proposed deal and other national issues.
The protest will commence on August 18 at 9am in front of the Sir Edney Cain Building in Belmopan.
The UDP is urging citizens to make their voices heard under the message, “Let your no mean no,” specifically opposing BTL’s proposed acquisition of Smart/Speednet.
The planned demonstration comes as the proposed telecommunications deal continues to generate public debate over competition, market control and the future of Belize’s telecommunications sector.
