Three of Saint Lucia’s rising athletics stars are preparing to compete against the world’s best after being selected to represent the country at the World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 2026.
Jady Emmanuel, Denzel Phillips and Ricardo Mann will carry the national flag at the prestigious championship, scheduled for August 5 to 9 in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
Emmanuel will compete in the Women’s 100 metres, Phillips will contest the Men’s Discus, while Mann will line up in the Men’s 100 metres.
The athletes will be accompanied by Team Manager Sigmund Daniels and Team Coach Denise Herman.
The Saint Lucia Athletics Association said four athletes attained the required qualification standards during the qualification period. However, following the final confirmation process, three were named to the official team.
SLAA President Dora Henry described the team’s participation as another important milestone in the development of athletics in Saint Lucia.
“Representing Saint Lucia at the World Athletics U20 Championships is a tremendous honour and an opportunity for our young athletes to compete against the very best in the world. Their qualification reflects years of dedication, discipline and perseverance, as well as the support of their coaches, clubs and families,” Henry said.
“We are proud of these outstanding young ambassadors and remain committed to developing pathways that allow Saint Lucian athletes to excel on the international stage.”
The World Athletics U20 Championships is regarded as the premier international competition for athletes under the age of 20 and has helped launch the careers of several Olympic and World champions.
The SLAA also congratulated all athletes who attained the qualification standards, describing the achievement as evidence of the continued growth and high standard of athletics in Saint Lucia.
