By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have formally arrested and charged three male minors in connection with the murder of 18-year-old Ewart Josiah Hernandez Jr.
Police say that on Thursday, August 6, two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old were jointly charged with Murder in relation to Hernandez’s killing, which occurred in Belize City on Monday, August 3.
Hernandez was reportedly on a motorcycle in the Swift Hall parking lot at around 1:15 p.m. when he was approached by two males. One of the men allegedly produced a firearm and fired a single shot, striking Hernandez. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:32 p.m.
Investigators recovered an expended shell casing from the scene, and police said surveillance footage from cameras in the area assisted investigators in pursuing suspects. Police had initially detained persons for questioning as the investigation progressed.
Police had also said that Hernandez was not known to them and that no motive had been established for the killing.
