‘The Dog-Gone Girl Is Mine’: Love triangle lands man in court after allegedly kicking ex-girlfriend’s new man off his cycle and throwing bottle at ex

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man accused of attacking his former girlfriend and injuring her new boyfriend in two separate incidents has been granted bail after appearing in the Magistrate’s Court.

Raheem Tray Gibson, 22, a runman of North Front Street, was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault and harm when he appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate on Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The aggravated assault charge relates to an allegation made by Gibson’s former girlfriend, a 24-year-old sales clerk.

Yearwood reported that at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, she was at a park on Matron Roberts Street with her five-year-old son and her current boyfriend when Gibson arrived on a motorcycle.

She alleged that Gibson stopped several feet away, cursed at her and threw a glass pint bottle in her direction. The bottle reportedly missed her, and Gibson then rode away.

The harm charge stems from an incident reported by the woman’s current boyfriend, a 24-year-old security guard.

He told police that on the morning of Saturday, August 1, he was riding his motorcycle toward Douglas Jones Street when another motorcyclist began following him.

He alleged that the rider drove directly behind him and kicked the rear tyre of his motorcycle, causing him to crash. Flowers reportedly suffered abrasions to his right palm, elbow, ankle and hip.

His motorcycle was also damaged, including a bent handlebar and front wheel, as well as broken lights, indicators and a rear-view mirror.

Flowers identified the alleged attacker as Gibson, whom he knew as his girlfriend’s former boyfriend.

There was no objection to bail, and Gibson was offered bail of $1,500 for the aggravated assault charge and $1,000 for the harm charge. He was required to provide separate sureties for each matter.

His bail conditions include staying at least 100 yards away from Yearwood, her home and workplace, and avoiding all contact with her, her relatives and prosecution witnesses, including through social media.

Gibson must also report to the Queen Street Police Station every Wednesday and must not be charged with any other offence while on bail.

Both matters were adjourned until September 16, 2026.
