Lennox Gentle remanded for murder of Kiffer McKenzie

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-four-year-old Lennox Linsford Gentle was arraigned on Wednesday for the murder of Kiffer Alexander McKenzie, who was fatally shot in downtown Belize City on June 13.

Gentle, a resident of Vernon Street, was escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court under heavy police security. He appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate, who explained that no plea would be taken because the charge is an indictable offence. Bail could not be granted at the Magistrate’s Court level, and Gentle was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 1, 2026.

McKenzie was seated inside his blue Jeep near the corner of Albert and Orange streets with his two children when a gunman approached the driver’s side and fired several shots. The shooter reportedly escaped on a motorcycle.

Despite being injured, McKenzie drove along Albert Street before colliding with a parked vehicle near Tropicana. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10:20 a.m.

Police recovered several expended 9mm shells and bullet fragments from the primary scene. Investigators also collected a blood sample from McKenzie’s vehicle.

According to police, information obtained through the department’s Fusion Center and a statement from a female Special Constable helped investigators identify the alleged shooter and eventually led to Gentle’s arrest.

McKenzie was the son of the late George “Junie Balls” McKenzie.
