By Zoila Palma: Taiwan and Belize are strengthening their partnership on climate resilience and disaster preparedness through initiatives aimed at improving flood monitoring and early warning systems.
In recent years, the Taiwan Technical Mission has partnered with the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change to establish nine flood monitoring stations and an early warning system covering flood-prone areas along Belize’s river basins.
Building on this mechanism, Taiwan and Belize officially launched the “Belize Multi-Hazard Risk Management Capacity Building Project” in February 2026.
The project seeks to expand Belize’s existing disaster prevention mechanisms to cover at least 70 percent of disaster-prone areas across the country.
Taiwan said it remains committed to working with Belize to strengthen the country’s capacity for disaster mitigation while reducing climate-related risks and vulnerabilities.
