By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have charged two men with aggravated burglary following an armed home invasion in which a resident was reportedly robbed of a 2026 Wingle pickup truck.
Twenty-nine-year-old Sheffan Hemmans, described by police as a post guard officer, and 26-year-old Alberto Arreaza, a Cayo District labourer, have been jointly charged.
Police say the complainant reported that at around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, two masked men entered his home, one armed with a firearm, and demanded the keys to his black 2026 Wingle pickup.
Fearing for his safety, the victim complied and the men drove away with the vehicle.
Police activated operational procedures and, at around 9:45 p.m., officers in the Santa Rosa area of western Belize intercepted the stolen pickup.
Police also observed another vehicle in the area which sped away. Officers pursued that vehicle and eventually intercepted it. Hemmans was reportedly found aboard.
A search of Hemmans allegedly led to the discovery of 50 live rounds of .22 LR ammunition.
In addition to the aggravated burglary charge, Hemmans was charged with keeping ammunition without a gun licence.
