DODOMA: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has called on Tanzanians, public and private institutions, development partners and other stakeholders to join efforts in supporting kidney and bone marrow transplant treatment for patients who cannot afford the specialised services.
The Prime Minister made the call during the Okoa Maisha Gala organised by the Chama Cha Mapinduzi(CCM) women wing, UWT in collaboration with Benjamin Mkapa Hospital at Mabele Hall, General Venance Mabeyo Complex in Dodoma stating that collective support towards the life-saving treatments would restore hope to patients and their families while helping more Tanzanians access critical medical services.
“This is an act of humanity, a noble gesture and one that touches the lives of Tanzanians. I commend the Tanzania Women Union(UWT) for responding to this call and becoming part of efforts to save lives,” he said.
Additionally, the Premier urged more individuals and organisations to support the initiative, saying every contribution would help expand access to transplant services for needy patients.

“What we are doing today is restoring hope to patients and their families. Everyone touched by this cause should continue participating so that more citizens can benefit from these important services,” he said.
Moreover, the PM reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue investing in the health sector by improving infrastructure, increasing medical equipment and strengthening specialised services to enable more Tanzanians to receive advanced treatment within the country.
Speaking earlier, Health Minister Mohamed Mchengerwa said the government would continue improving specialised healthcare services through strengthening health infrastructure, medical equipment and human resources.
He called on stakeholders to continue supporting the Kidney and Bone Marrow Transplant Treatment Fund to ensure more patients access the services.
During the gala, a total of 2.225bn/- was raised through contributions and pledges from various stakeholders to support the Kidney and Bone Marrow Transplant Treatment Fund.
The funds will be used to assist patients requiring transplant services and improve infrastructure supporting kidney and bone marrow transplant care in the country.
