One checkpoint stop, three traffic charges for Belmopan rider

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A routine vehicular checkpoint in Belmopan turned up a motorcycle missing every piece of required paperwork, and its rider now faces three traffic charges and a date with the Magistrate Court.

According to the Department of Transport, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at about 8:10 p.m., a traffic warden conducting a vehicular checkpoint on Cemetery Road in the Maya Mopan Area of Belmopan City observed a woman approaching on a black motorcycle and directed her to stop, which she did.

The warden introduced herself as a Department of Transport officer and explained that checks were being conducted to ensure vehicles on the public road carried proper documentation. Asked for her driver’s licence, the rider stated that she did not own one, and she was informed of the offence and cautioned.

The checks did not stop there. Further inspection of the motorcycle revealed that it carried no insurance and was not licensed, adding two more offences to the night’s tally. The rider was informed of all the offences, cautioned again, placed under arrest, and escorted to the Maya Mopan Precinct pending charges.

At the precinct, she was identified as 32-year-old Francine Vanessa Recinos, a self-employed resident of the Salvapan Area, Belmopan City. She was informed of her constitutional rights in custody.

That same date, she was formally arrested and charged with three traffic offences: driving a motor vehicle not covered by third-party risk insurance, driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, and driving a motor vehicle while not being the holder of a Belize driver’s licence. Cautioned once more, she chose to remain silent.

Bail was granted in the sum of $500, and she is to appear at the Belmopan Magistrate Court at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
