Saint Lucia’s Randall Monroe won a bronze medal in the Under-17 Boys’ Long Jump during an abbreviated opening session on the final day of the CARIFTA Athletic Championships in Grenada.
Monroe cleared a career best 6.60m on his fifth attempt and was briefly in the silver medal position. Monroe, on his CARIFTA debut, was fourth in the high jump on Sunday night. That result saw Saint Lucia’s medal tally move to four (one gold, one silver and two bronze).

Team Barbados did not add to its nine-medal haul during the session.
Early action on the track saw Tiara McClean finishing fifth in her semi-final of the Under-17 Girls’ 100m Hurdles, but her time of 15.23 seconds was enough to see her qualify for Monday night’s final.

In related news, Alika Harewood and Afia Greenidge have both qualified for the final of the Under-20 Girls’ 100m Hurdles. Tevon Cadougan booked a spot in the Under-20 Boys’ 110 Hurdles final with the slowest qualifying time of 14.25 seconds, but his compatriot Rashad Gibson narrowly missed out after clocking 14.29.
In the field event action, Shamyra Scantlebury finished ninth in the Under-17
Girls’ Javelin following a best effort of 27.95m.
