MNJTF Seizes 21,000 Rounds of Ammunition and Arrests Suspected Terrorist Logistics Courier

The Multinational Joint Task Force has announced the arrest of a man suspected of transporting logistical supplies for armed groups and the seizure of approximately 21,000 rounds of ammunition concealed in disguised containers in Cameroon’s Far North Region.

In a statement issued on Monday, the MNJTF said personnel of Cameroon’s National Gendarmerie stationed at Hilé-Alifa, under Sector 1 of the joint force, arrested the suspect during a patrol in the Dougoum Silio area of Logone.

The suspect was identified as Moussa Goudja, 30. He was arrested on 10 August 2026 while carrying three containers disguised as petroleum-product containers.

The security forces found about 21,000 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition inside them, a calibre commonly used in several types of assault rifles.

Investigation into ammunition’s destination

According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was transporting the ammunition for onward delivery to the Ambdego area before he was intercepted.

The MNJTF said the suspect had been handed over to a national security agency and remained in custody as investigations continued to identify those behind the shipment and its intended recipients.

The statement did not identify the group believed to be awaiting the ammunition, referring only to “terrorist elements operating within the Lake Chad Basin”.

Cameroonian forces commended

MNJTF Force Commander Major General S T Audu commended the Cameroonian security personnel serving under Sector 1, saying the operation had disrupted an attempt to deliver a substantial quantity of ammunition to armed groups operating in the region.

He said the force would continue strengthening intelligence-led operations and cooperation with national security agencies to dismantle supply networks and deny armed groups access to weapons, ammunition and logistical resources.

The commander also called on all MNJTF sectors to intensify patrols and clearance operations to disrupt armed networks and strengthen security across the Lake Chad Basin.

The Multinational Joint Task Force comprises units from Lake Chad Basin countries and conducts operations against Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province, as well as the cross-border supply and smuggling networks supporting their activities.
