Lloyd Parchue rejects 4-year sentence indication after gun allegedly found in SUV; remanded to prison

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A former security guard accused of being caught with an unlicensed 9mm pistol and eight live rounds of ammunition has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after rejecting a sentencing indication of four years and one month behind bars.

Thirty-three-year-old Lloyd Parchue, a resident of southside Belize City, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm and keeping ammunition without a gun licence.

Police allege that at around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, members of the GI3 Unit were patrolling near Flamboyant Street and Croton Lane when they noticed a white SUV travelling at high speed.

Officers reportedly stopped the vehicle after it came to a halt in front of a residence on Croton Lane. Parchue, who was identified as the driver, was ordered out of the vehicle and informed that police would conduct a search for firearms, ammunition and drugs.

According to police, nothing illegal was initially found inside the glove compartment; however, officers allegedly discovered a silver 9mm pistol with a brown handle and eight live S&B 9mm rounds concealed behind the glove compartment.

Parchue was subsequently detained and taken to the Queen Street Police Station.

During his arraignment, Parchue requested a Maximum Sentence Indication (MSI) to determine the sentence he could face if he pleaded guilty.

The magistrate indicated that he would receive four years and one month imprisonment on each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently, meaning he would serve a total of four years and one month.

Parchue declined the indicated sentence and instead pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Due to the nature of the offences, bail was denied and Parchue was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 23, 2026.
