By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old Belize City man has been charged with allegedly helping another man carry out an armed attack on Rio Bravo Crescent last month.
Jaidyn William Brown, a car washer and construction worker, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of abetment to commit aggravated assault.
Police allege that on August 25, 2026, Brown purposely aided Gareth Hemmans in committing an aggravated assault upon a 32-year-old man.
Brown, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount.
As a condition of his bail, Brown is prohibited from contacting or interfering with the complainant or any prosecution witness, either directly or indirectly. He is due back in court on November 5, 2026.
The charge stems from a shooting incident reported at around 7:30 p.m. on Rio Bravo Crescent. The complainant told police he was standing in front of a yard when a maroon Nissan Murano approached and slowed down.
According to the complainant, a passenger inside the vehicle allegedly pointed a firearm in his direction and fired several shots. He ran behind a cement fence and escaped without injury.
Police processed the scene and reportedly recovered two 9mm expended shells and a fragment. The Nissan Murano was later located on Jimmy Dyer Street, where police allegedly found another 9mm expended shell on the front passenger seat.
Hemmans, 35, was subsequently charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison until October 29, 2026.
Brown’s case is scheduled to return to court on November 5.
