By Zoila Palma: Sixty-seven Belizeans pursuing higher education in health-related fields have been awarded scholarships through a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and several tertiary-level institutions.
The scholarship recipients, who have signed bonds with the Government of Belize, will receive financial support throughout their programs, allowing them to focus on their studies. Areas of study include nursing, medicine, mental health and biomedical engineering.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening Belize’s public healthcare system by developing and retaining highly skilled professionals.
The program also seeks to empower scholarship recipients to expand their expertise and contribute to improving the health and well-being of Belizeans.
With a BZ$2.5 million investment this year, the scholarship program represents a significant commitment to building a stronger healthcare workforce and preparing the next generation of professionals to meet Belize’s evolving health needs.
