An independent contractor has checked 48 fuel pumps across Anguilla as part of an exercise to verify accuracy and ensure industry standards are met.
The Consumer Affairs Unit’s initiative involved volume testing and equipment checks at service stations throughout the island with recalibration carried out where necessary.
Kyle Hodge spoke about the project, which took place in collaboration with bulk fuel importers and retail fuel operators, during a government press conference on 21 September.

“The initiative was undertaken to verify the accuracy of fuel dispensers, ensure consumers receive the correct quality, the correct quantity of fuel for their purchases and to uphold fair trading practices throughout the fuel retail sector,” he said.
Hodge said the exercise involved “extensive” assurance visits to multiple service stations. A total of 48 fuel pumps were assessed, comprising 35 gasoline pumps and 13 diesel pumps.
The contractor verified compliance with industry standards using a five imperial gallon prover designed to measure and gauge accuracy.
Where calibration adjustments were required beyond acceptable tolerances, pumps were recalibrated and retested to confirm compliance and accuracy.
The inspections and testing activities required about 28 hours to complete and were conducted between 29 and 31 August.
“This marks the unit’s second fuel verification exercise for 2026, and similar exercises are expected to become a regular part of its consumer protection activities,” Hodge said.
He added that the Consumer Affairs Unit extended its appreciation to the bulk fuel importers and fuel operators for their cooperation and support throughout this exercise.
The unit also thanked the public for their patience during any temporary disruptions that may have occurred.
A comprehensive report outlining the findings, observations, and recommendations will be provided to the minister and stakeholders upon finalisation.
