By Zoila Palma: On August 6, 2026, Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, visited several farming operations and met with farmers and stakeholders across the Belize District.
During the visit, Hon. Rodwell Ferguson toured several operations, including Wild Dog Food’s headquarters, Bomba United Farmers Cooperative Society Limited, Juan Lopez’s cattle farm, and Jimmi Jones’ hydroponics facility.
The Ministry notes that the visit “provided an opportunity to hear firsthand about the challenges they face.” Some of the challenges mentioned are the impacts of climate change, unpredictable weather and the realities of rain-fed farming.
The visits were conducted through the Ministry’s Belize District Extension Services and are intended to help identify ways the Ministry can continue to strengthen support for farmers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
