Go and compete to win medals, Minister Ogwang tips team Uganda at official flag off prior to 2026 FEASSA Games

The Ugandan delegation for the upcoming 2026 FEASSA Games was officially flagged off at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala on Saturday, 8th August.

State Minister of Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang was chief guest, flanked by officials from the ministry of education and sports, FEASSA and USSSA president Justus Mugisha, school representatives, students and others.

“Go and compete; not participate. The objective is to win medals” Hon. Ogwang urged with a promise of leading the outstanding medallists to a visit of His Excellency President Museveni.

“There is no begging. I am now demanding for positive results” the minister who also preached against doping added.

Hon. Ogwang was specific in his speech regarding the hitches affecting the schools’ sports fraternity.

“Leadership is about identifying a problem and solving it. Today, we have a problem of lack of organization, talent identification and transition of the best talent to represent the country. Something is not right” he pointed.

The minister reassured Government’s commitment to renovate 120 schools across the country and developing 19 centers of excellence in the 19 zone of USSSA.

Justus Mugisha, the USSSA president expressed readiness for team Uganda as he lauded the Government of Uganda for the continued financial support, the different schools, parents, coaches and players for the collective effort.

“Uganda is ready to compete at the 23rd FEASSA Games in Morogoro, Tanzania. We thank the Government of Uganda for the financial support to USSSA.” Mugisha remarked.

Uganda will be represented by 138 teams from different schools (over 60) from a variety of games disciplines to be competed for in secondary, primary schools and SNE.

Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel, the general secretary at the National Council of Sports (NCS) commended the primary and secondary schools in developing sports.

There are several new sports disciplines as Baseball, Softball and Cricket.

Other traditional games played over the years are football, netball, hockey, volleyball, basketball (3X3 and 5X5), Rugby (7’s and 15’s), chess, scrabble, beach soccer, beach volleyball, goalball and others.
