Foreign Minister Discusses Strengthening Cooperation with OIC Secretary-General

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, received His Excellency Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on Wednesday at his office in Nouakchott.

During the meeting, the two officials reviewed cooperation between Mauritania and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and discussed ways to strengthen and enhance it. They also exchanged views on the priorities of joint Islamic action and issues of mutual interest.

On the occasion, the Secretary-General reiterated his deep thanks and gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, for the trust placed in him through his nomination to this position, as well as for the support and follow-up that accompanied his nomination.

He also highly commended the tireless efforts made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Mauritanian diplomatic corps, which contributed to mobilizing support for his nomination and securing its unanimous approval by the member states.

The Secretary-General expressed his deep appreciation to the President of the Republic for the gracious reception extended to him and for his guidance, which reflects Mauritania’s commitment to supporting the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and strengthening the effectiveness of joint Islamic action.

Both sides affirmed their aspiration to broaden the horizons of cooperation between Mauritania and the Organization and to strengthen coordination and consultation between them in a manner that serves the interests of member states and contributes to enhancing solidarity and joint Islamic action.
