Environmental Statistics Advisory Committee and partners discuss Belize Environmental Geoportal

By Zoila Palma:  Today, the Environmental Statistics Advisory Committee (ESAC) convened its third meeting, bringing together representatives from key government agencies and partner organizations to advance the production, management, and dissemination of environmental statistics in Belize.

Discussions included updating the Belize Environmental Geoportal.

Participants joined an interactive session with consultant Yvette Alonzo, who is leading the validation and updating of the Belize Environmental Geoportal.

Committee members reviewed existing datasets, identified priority data gaps, and provided recommendations to further enhance the Geoportal as a centralized platform for environmental information.

The Department of the Environment explained that the Belize Environmental Geoportal plays a vital role in supporting evidence-based decision-making, national and international environmental reporting, and public access to reliable environmental data. Through continued collaboration, ESAC remains committed to strengthening Belize’s environmental information systems and ensuring that accurate, up-to-date environmental data is available to support sustainable development and informed policymaking.
