As Nigeria’s energy industry enters a new era of local ownership and capital inflow, Charlvon Energy Services is building the homegrown expertise need- ed to translate potential intoproduction. Drawing on over 30 years in the country’s oil and gas sector, the firm has evolved from marine services into a fully integrated energy solutions company, with drilling at the heart of its operations. Charlvon delivers upstream drilling, turnkey drilling, oilfield services, and project man- agement. The company is one of Nigeria’s largest local owners of land drilling rigs, giving it greater control over mobilization and execution while reducing reliance on third-party assets and strengthening its ability to respond quickly to clients. “Our investment in assets is an investment in Nigeria. Owning and controlling critical assets allows us to manage our time and resources more effectively. It enables faster delivery and more structured decision-making,” explains Ige.
Over the last two to three years, Charlvon has drilled more than 18 wells, reflecting the capacity it has built locally. “We are still growing and hope to compete with the largest players in the industry. We are only getting started; the best is yet to come,”says Ige. With over 400 employees across multiple locations, Charlvon is developing the workforce and technical skills needed to deliver more services locally while strengthening the domestic expertise required for increasingly complex upstream projects. “One of our biggest investments, both historically and today, is in our people,” observes Ige.
The company is also responding to demand for integrated delivery, allowing clients to consolidate requirements under a single provider while simplifying coordination across different stages of complex upstream projects. “Clients are no longer only looking for isolated services. They increasingly want integrated solutions from a single provider,” emphasizes Ige.
Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has supported this evolution by improving clarity and creating greater space for indigenous participation. It has also given operators greater certainty around governance and responsibilities, creating
a clearer framework within which service providers can build their capabilities and partnerships. Charlvon is also deepening relationships with operators including NNPC E&P Limited (NEPL) as it positions itself for further opportunities across the sector. “Nigeria is not without challenges, but it is a country with significant potential and an expanding energy sector. As long as investors are prepared to engage for the long term, Nigeria is a market worth considering,” concludes Ige.
