Crown of hope for SA’s Hombir

Miss World South Africa Romanda Hombir has been crowned Miss World Africa at the 73rd Miss World pageant, held at in Nha Trang, Khánh Hòa, Vietnam.

Hombir (27) secured the continental title after representing South Africa at the international competition, where she impressed during the various stages of the pageant.

Joheirry Mola of the Dominican Republic was crowned Miss World 2026.

Speaking to Puerto Rican beauty pageant titleholder Danny Mejía following the grand finale, Hombir reflected on the significance of becoming Miss World Africa and the responsibility that comes with the title.

“It feels so surreal. I can’t believe that’s my new title and the new responsibility I get to carry with pride and joy. I’m hoping my country is proud.”

She said she hoped her achievement would also shine a spotlight on Africa and its efforts to create better opportunities for its people.

“My continent is proud, and the world can see Africa is actively working towards improving our countries and being united, and working towards ensuring our children are getting the love and care they deserve,” Hombir, a clinical audiologist, said.

Hombir speaks about restoring hope and dignity.

Her message of restoration was also central to her response during the top 12 question-and-answer round at the Miss World 2026 finals.

She was asked: “Being the Continental Queen of Africa is a very big responsibility, so what lessons have you learnt in your country that would be beneficial as an ambassador of Africa to the whole world?”

In her response, Hombir spoke about restoration, dignity, kindness and the importance of creating hope within communities.

“I’m so honoured to stand here because I represent something from my country that is restoration, but I see that exact same quality in Vietnam every single day.”

She explained how she intended to carry that message forward as a representative of the continent.

“A restoration of hope, of dignity, of care, of kindness, and that is the exact same level of dedicated service I plan to bring should I be crowned Miss World Africa.”

Hombir emphasised that meaningful change can begin with everyday acts of compassion and respect.

“Simply put, there is absolutely no community that should ever go without the ability to see hope restored.”

For Hombir, that restoration begins with seemingly small gestures, from greeting others with warmth to treating people with dignity and respect.
