It is interesting that this came up…on a thread on Instagram yesterday, people were commenting on language around Down’s Syndrome…somebody commented that people with Down’s Syndrome “couldn’t be afforded equality because they weren’t equal”…what they actually meant was not that they were lesser but that they required something more, something extra…I suggested that they considered what the term equality might actually mean and perhaps rephrase and re-language their understanding of difference accordingly. To that somebody else in the thread called me a “retard”…I decided today was the day to leave Instagram…
