By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 28-year-old Burrell Boom man is out on bail after being accused of stealing a cellphone from a motorist while he was reportedly assisting him after his vehicle became stuck in a ditch.

Roy Frederick Tillett, a barber and construction worker, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with theft of a black Android cellphone valued at $450, which belonged to a man he knows.

Tillett pleaded not guilty to the charge and denied stealing the phone.

With no objection from the prosecution, the Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety in the same amount.

As conditions of his bail, Tillett must remain at least 100 yards away from the complainant and must not interfere with him or any other prosecution witnesses.

According to police, the complainant reported that on August 11 he was driving along an unnamed street in Burrell Boom when he picked up Tillett, whom he knew.

The complainant said his vehicle subsequently became stuck in a ditch, prompting him to exit and inspect it. He reportedly left his cellphone between the driver’s and passenger seats while Tillett remained nearby.

The complainant told police that he later asked Tillett to go and purchase something for him. After Tillett left, the complainant noticed that his cellphone was missing.

He reportedly waited for Tillett to return so he could question him about the missing phone, but Tillett did not return.

The man told investigators that no one else had entered his vehicle during that period and subsequently requested court action against Tillett.

Tillett is scheduled to return to court on October 14, 2026.
