Uganda’s Baby Victoria Pearls barely broke a sweat in their final group game against Malawi, winning by 10 wickets.
The Baby Victoria Pearls needed a win to consolidate second place and ensure they were out of reach of the hosts, Tanzania, in third place.
Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl. Malawi started briskly, racing to 30/1 inside 7 overs, but when the wheels came off, it went downhill till they were bundled out for just 44.
Sarah Tino (3/7), Devine Gabriella Nyamer (3/7) and Sheila Namagoba (2/2) were the pick of the bowlers.
In the run chase, captain Jimia Mohammad (12) and Gringish Nabulime (30) knocked off the required runs inside eight overs to bring up a commanding 10-wicket win for Uganda, a demolition job that ensured the Net Run Rate remained intact for Uganda.
The win means Uganda will meet first-place Zimbabwe from Group A. Zimbabwe and Nigeria are the only unbeaten sides in the tournament, which means they will need to raise their game if they want to nick the favourites.
Rwanda will take on Nigeria in the other semifinal, and only the winner of the tournament qualifies for the U-19 World Cup next year.
