Ackeem Auguste Ruled Out of CPL Season After Medical Emergency

Ackeem Auguste’s Caribbean Premier League campaign has come to an abrupt end after the Saint Lucia Kings batter suffered another serious medical emergency, just months after a life-threatening scare while playing for MI Emirates in the International League T20 in December of 2025.

The 22-year-old was ruled out ahead of the Kings’ final home fixture against the Jamaica Kingsmen on Friday, August 21, at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet. Captain Roston Chase said Auguste was unavailable due to illness, while head coach Daren Sammy later wished the top-order batter a speedy recovery in a post-match interview.

Saint Lucia Daily Post has learnt that Auguste suffered a medical emergency that required surgery at Tapion Hospital. He was released from hospital today, August 25, just weeks before his 23rd birthday on September 12. His father, Wayne Auguste, described the doctors’ intervention as “world class.”

Auguste is expected to be sidelined for approximately 12 weeks, ruling him out for the remainder of the CPL season and likely ending any immediate contention for selection to the West Indies Senior Men’s Team.

His absence is a major blow for the Kings. Auguste had been a regular presence at No. 3 in the batting order and, despite an uneven start to the season, produced one of the team’s standout individual knocks: a blistering 63 from 34 balls, with three fours and six sixes, in a losing effort against the Barbados Tridents on August 16. 

Although Tim Seifert has rejoined the franchise, Auguste now joins young prodigy Jewel Andrew on the sidelines. In an official statement, the Saint Lucia Kings said: “Ackeem’s health and well-being remain the team’s priority, and he will receive the necessary care and support during this period. The Saint Lucia Kings wish Ackeem a full and speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back when he is medically cleared to return.”
