The 2026 commencement celebration honored achievement, faith, perseverance and the continuing power of Black excellence.

There are moments that transcend ceremony and become part of a greater legacy. The 2026 Commencement Celebration of Upper Room Theological University, Inc. was one of those moments—a powerful gathering centered on education, faith, leadership, achievement and Black excellence.

From the arrival of graduates and their families to the recognition of distinguished honorees, the evening reflected years of sacrifice, determination and perseverance.

At the heart of the celebration was the recognition of Dr. Bernard Bronner, whose decades of entrepreneurship, leadership and commitment to excellence have influenced business, media and the broader community.

Another Chapter in the Bernard Bronner Legacy

For Bronner, the occasion represented more than another honor. It marked continued growth in a career already defined by accomplishment.

The recognition was particularly meaningful as the Upscale legacy celebrates 37 years—a history built around culture, entrepreneurship, aspiration and the elevation of the Black community.

Bronner’s milestone served as a reminder that achievement does not signal the end of personal development. Even after decades of success, there remain new opportunities to learn, evolve, serve and create pathways for others.

His recognition also stood alongside the accomplishments of the distinguished Class of MMXXVI — 2026, including Dr. Henry Dudley, Dr. Chef Kimberly, Dr.Daniel Jenkins, Dr. Charles Langford, Rev. Dr. Matthew Burke, Dr. Deon Robertson, Dr’s Todd And  Lance Feurtado of the King of Kings Foundation and Dr. Sean Ringgold.

Each graduate traveled a different road, but their journeys shared a common quality: perseverance.

Behind every degree were sacrifices rarely visible from the commencement stage—long days, demanding nights, family responsibilities, careers, businesses, assignments and personal challenges. Graduation represented not simply the completion of a curriculum, but the discipline to continue when circumstances made finishing difficult.

Honoring the Vision Behind the University

The celebration also recognized Dr. Carrie Cameron, Founder and Chancellor of Upper Room Theological University, Inc.

Cameron’s leadership has helped establish a pathway where scholarship, faith, purpose, leadership and service can flourish. The graduates crossing the stage represented the impact of that vision and the possibilities created when institutions invest in developing future leaders.

Special acknowledgment was also extended to Dr. Tara S. Merchant, J.J., U.S. District Judge, NYC, and Upper Room Theological University Board of Trustees Legal Advisor, for her leadership, legal insight, counsel and service to the university.

Together, their contributions underscored an important truth: institutions are strengthened not only by those who establish them, but also by those who contribute their knowledge, experience and leadership to sustaining the mission.

More Than a Degree

The beauty of the evening extended beyond the degrees and honors presented. The ceremony represented transformation, possibility, endurance and Black excellence expressed through education, service, faith and leadership.

For the Black community, such moments carry particular significance. Seeing accomplished men and women standing proudly in their achievements provides the next generation with tangible examples of what perseverance can produce.

The Class of 2026 now leaves Upper Room Theological University carrying more than credentials. Its members also carry a responsibility to lead, mentor, serve and open doors for those who follow.

For Bronner, the honor adds another chapter to an already substantial legacy. His journey demonstrates that success is not measured solely by what a person accumulates, but also by what they build, whom they inspire, what they contribute and whom they lift along the way.

After 37 years of the Upscale legacy, that message feels especially fitting: legacy is never truly finished.

It continues through service. It grows through leadership. And it becomes more powerful when one generation creates opportunities for the next.

The 2026 commencement was therefore more than a graduation ceremony. It was a celebration of education, faith, perseverance, transformation, purpose and possibility.

Most of all, it was a majestic celebration of Black excellence—and the legacies still being written.
