Woman suffers neck and back injuries after attack at home

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police in Independence Village are investigating a domestic violence complaint after a 35 year old woman reported that she was choked twice and pushed against a dresser during an argument inside her home.

According to police, the woman reported that she was at home at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, when she became involved in a verbal altercation with a man known to her.

The dispute reportedly began inside a bedroom.

Police say the woman alleged that the man became angry, approached her and grabbed her by the neck with his hand before pushing her toward a dresser.

She reportedly struck her back against the furniture and experienced pain to her neck and back.

The woman alleged that the man released her, walked away briefly and then returned and choked her a second time before again pushing her against the dresser.

She told police that she feared for her life during the incident.

After the man left the bedroom, the woman reportedly locked the door and called police for assistance.

A medico legal form was issued and a doctor subsequently classified her injuries as harm.

Police identified a 44 year old man as the person of interest. The matter remains under investigation.
