URA Ladies collect first-ever top-flight points

The Women Tax Collectors have officially arrived on the grandest stage of Ugandan women’s football.

Bouncing back ruthlessly from opening day heartbreak, URA Ladies clinched their first-ever victory in the FUFA Women Super League, dispatching Makerere University WFC 2-0 at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.

Following a humbling 3-0 defeat to KCCA Women FC on Matchday One, head coach Moses Nkata demanded an immediate response from his freshly promoted side. His players answered the call in this rescheduled Matchday Two fixture originally slated for Sunday before shifting to Saturday, laying the foundation for a milestone afternoon entirely in a dominant first half. 

Elizabeth Nakigozi sliced through the Makerere defense to break the deadlock in the 22nd minute, sending the URA bench into raptures. Just 13 minutes later, Shafiga Tamisi doubled the advantage, capping off a stellar first-half display led by captain Zaina Namuleme to establish a comfortable 2-0 cushion before the interval.

With the maiden three points safely secured, URA Ladies turn their focus ahead to a trip to the Katusabe Dove Playground to face Lady Doves FC on Saturday, October 17.

Meanwhile, Makerere University WFC will look to reset when they host KCCA Women FC at the Nsibirwa Ground in Makerere on the same day.

Elsewhere around the grounds in the FWSL, KCCA Women FC were held to a frustrating 0-0 stalemate by St Noa Girls FC on Saturday, September 26, as the two sides shared the points. St Noa will next host Jinja United WFC on Sunday, October 18, at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku. 

At Muteesa II Stadium, She Maroons FC and Kawempe Muslim LFC split the points in a deadlock. She Maroons will return to action on Saturday, October 17, when they visit She Corporate FC in Njeru, while Kawempe Muslim will host Uganda Martyrs the following day.

In Iganga, She Corporate FC engineered a spirited comeback against Jinja United WFC to claim their first three points of the season. Though Patricia Babirye initially fired the hosts ahead, Jesca Namanda stole the show with a brilliant brace, striking in the 40th and 62nd minutes to turn the game around and secure She Corporate’s victory, leaving Babirye’s goal as Jinja United’s lone effort.

League action continues on Sunday, September 27, with all matches kicking off at 4 PM. Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC will face Rines SS WFC at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, while Amus College WFC will host Lady Doves FC at the Amus Stadium in Bukedea.
