The discovery of the severely decomposed remains of missing teenager Jerbiah Paul has led to murder charges against two police officers in Dominica.
Paul was reported missing on July 24. On August 12, her remains were found on a cliff in the northern village of Capuchin and later linked to her. Police said DNA testing was needed to confirm her identity.

Police officer Joshua Hamlet appeared in court on Monday. He was formally charged with Paul’s murder, becoming the second member of the Dominica Police Force to face such a charge in this case.
Hamlet did not have to enter a plea because murder is an indictable offence.

After his court appearance, he was sent to the State Prison and is scheduled to return to court on October 2, 2026, for a preliminary inquiry.
The latest charge comes after the arrest of 23-year-old former police officer Jean-Luc Langlais, who was charged with homicide in Paul’s death. Langlais was dismissed from the police force and sent to the State Prison. He did not have a lawyer and will remain in prison until October 2, 2026.

Police Chief Lincoln Corbette said the investigation into Paul’s disappearance and death is still ongoing and promised that every effort will be made to find the truth.
Investigators also found what police called an alleged attempt to hide Paul’s death by creating fake social media accounts to make it seem like she was still alive.
Authorities said that more charges could still be filed as the investigation into Paul’s disappearance, death, and the alleged cover-up continues.
