West Hollywood glowed with star power on Thursday, June 25, 2026 as The Sun Rose played host to one of the most heartfelt tributes of the season, “The Sylvia Rhone Legacy Celebration.” Presented by Monami Entertainment and the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC), the evening brought together generations of music royalty to honor a woman whose fingerprints are on the very foundation of modern music culture.
Sylvia Rhone’s career reads like a masterclass in breaking barriers, and the room reflected exactly that legacy. As one of the most powerful women to ever lead a major record label, Rhone has spent decades shaping the careers of icons and reshaping what leadership in the music industry looks like. Thursday night wasn’t just a celebration of her résumé, it was a celebration of her influence, her vision, and the doors she pried open for those who came after her.

A Star-Studded Red Carpet
Sheen Magazine was on the scene capturing it all, with red carpet interviews featuring R&B soul crooner Kenny Lattimore, Raheem DeVaughn, and hip-hop icon Master P, each sharing in the celebration of Rhone’s impact. The guest of honor herself, Sylvia Rhone, graced the carpet alongside musical director Adam Blackstone and a host of other notables who came out to pay their respects to a true architect of the culture.

Master P gave Sheen an exclusive sneak peek into his legendary come-up, breaking down how his early guerrilla marketing hustle; literally selling CDs out of the trunk of his car — laid the groundwork for a business empire that would go on to move over one million records. It was a full-circle reminder that innovation and hustle have always been at the heart of the culture Rhone helped build a platform for.

The carpet also turned into an impromptu performance stage courtesy of Raheem DeVaughn, who broke into song and serenaded Sheen live on the carpet, delivering exactly the kind of soulful, unscripted moment his fans have come to love him for. Adding to the night’s playful energy, Rosario Ray, the artist behind the viral hit “Mink Mink Mink” stopped to give Sheen a firsthand tutorial of the dance trend that’s been taking over social media, proving that even on a night dedicated to legacy, the culture never stops moving forward. This viral dance was created by TikTok sensation Myke_Livinlegend.
An additional major highlight of the moment was when I asked what inspired the team to curate such a special evening in Rhone’s honor? The answer came when event presenter Mona Scott-Young looked over at Prophet before sharing the heartfelt origin of the celebration. “The idea began with Missy Elliott, who wanted to do something special for Sylvia,” Scott-Young shared. “Rhone was instrumental in Missy Elliott getting her big break. She called me up and said, ‘I have an artist I want you to manage,’ and the rest is history.” It was a quiet reminder that behind every legendary career are the relationships and believers who helped set it all in motion.

The energy on the carpet matched the magnitude of the moment — equal parts reverence and joy, as artists, executives, and longtime friends of Rhone gathered to celebrate someone who has meant so much to so many throughout her storied career.
Among the most touching moments of the night came when legendary music executive Suzanne de Passé arrived to honor her longtime friend. De Passé shared with Sheen that she and Rhone have known each other their entire lives, a bond rooted even deeper in the fact that their mothers have been best friends for decades. A full-circle testament to the kind of lifelong sisterhood that helped shape both of their legendary careers.

Hosted by Missy Elliott, With Music That Moved the Room
Leave it to Missy Elliott to bring the perfect blend of celebration and star power as the evening’s host. Under her direction, the night flowed seamlessly from tribute to tribute, keeping the energy high while never losing sight of the reason everyone had gathered.
Musical Director Adam Blackstone curated a tribute that hit every emotional note, and the night’s performance highlights left the room buzzing. International singing sensation Flo delivered a stunning rendition of En Vogue’s classic “Don’t Let Go,” paying homage to the golden era of R&B that Rhone helped cultivate. Then, in a moment no one saw coming, the legendary Stevie Wonder made a surprise appearance, sending the room into an eruption of applause and disbelief. Special guest performances throughout the night also included Kenny Lattimore, hip-hop pioneer YoYo, Terrell Carter, and many more, each bringing their own tribute to the woman being honored. Special guest DJ Bryan-Michael Cox kept the transitions smooth and the atmosphere electric throughout the night.

In perhaps the most quietly powerful moment of the evening, rapper Lil Wayne made an appearance without ever stepping foot on stage. He slipped into the event, embraced Rhone in a warm hug, offered her heartfelt words of endearment, and exited just as discreetly as he’d arrived! No fanfare, no spotlight, just genuine respect. It was a fitting metaphor for the entire night: no matter how many stars filled the room, the spotlight never left Sylvia.

Design, Details, and Custom Cocktails
Every element of the evening was intentional, thanks to Creative Director Kara Saun of The Fashion Fairy Godmother, whose design work transformed The Sun Rose into a space worthy of the legend being honored. Guests sipped on custom cocktails crafted by PATRÓN Tequila as they mingled, reflected, and celebrated a woman who has spent her career making sure the culture always had a seat at the table. Huge appreciation to D. Good Publicity for always ensuring they have the right people in the room, to make any event a success.
A Legacy Cemented
By the end of the night, one thing was clear: Sylvia Rhone’s story is far from a footnote in music history, it’s a chapter that continues to be written, influencing generations of artists and executives who now walk paths she helped pave. “The Sylvia Rhone Legacy Celebration” didn’t just honor where she’s been; it celebrated everything she continues to represent for the future of the industry.
