By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A San Jose Palmar Village woman’s bicycle and a batch of recado she had prepared for sale were taken from her home, and her own stepson has been formally charged with the theft.
According to the Belize Police Department, a 39-year-old woman of the village reported on Saturday, July 25, 2026, that on Tuesday, July 21, at about 3:30 p.m., she returned home after picking up her daughter from work and was informed by a family member that her stepson had taken her purple Kenton brand beach cruiser bicycle, valued at $150, along with five pounds of black recado, valued at $60, which she had prepared for sale.
The total value of the missing items stands at $210. The woman, who has known her stepson for about five years, requested court action, and her statement was recorded in Spanish and translated into English.
Police detained a man in connection with the report, identified at the Orange Walk Police Station as 19-year-old Sotero Samuel Cantun, a Belizean labourer of San Jose Palmar Village. He was issued his rights in custody in a language he understood and signed the acknowledgement willingly.
On Saturday, July 25, police obtained a warrant and formally arrested and charged Cantun with the crime of theft. Cautioned once more, he chose to remain silent.
