SLB launches third Winter Drive

…as it marks 30-year anniversary

AS part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, Standard Lesotho Bank (SLB) has launched the third edition of its annual Winter Drive campaign, calling on Basotho to donate warm clothing, blankets and food to help vulnerable communities cope with the country’s harsh winter.

Launched under the theme “Re Anetsa Mofuthu” (We Spread Warmth), the initiative seeks to provide relief to disadvantaged groups across Lesotho while reinforcing the bank’s long-standing commitment to community development.

Now in its third year, the Winter Drive has grown from a modest charitable campaign into one of the bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiatives, bringing together employees, customers, business partners and members of the public to support those most affected by freezing winter conditions.

Over the past two years, the campaign has distributed hundreds of blankets, warm clothes, food parcels and other essential supplies to vulnerable Basotho.

This year’s campaign carries added significance as it coincides with SLB’s 30 years of operations in Lesotho.

The bank has said, while the anniversary celebrates three decades of banking excellence, innovation and economic contribution, it also highlights its commitment to improving the lives of the communities it serves.

SLB Head of Brand and Marketing, Palesa Ntlhakana, said the Winter Drive reflected the institution’s belief that success should be measured not only by financial performance but also by the positive impact it creates.

“For three years, the Winter Drive has represented the very best of who we are as a bank and as a community,” Ms Ntlhakana said.

“It reflects our belief that meaningful progress is not measured only by financial success, but also by the positive impact we create in people’s lives. As we celebrate 30 years of serving Basotho, we are proud to continue this tradition of giving and to extend warmth, dignity and hope to those who need it most.”

She said this year, the bank had expanded the campaign’s reach to include remote mountain communities, herd boys, vulnerable adolescent mothers, people living with disabilities and elderly citizens, many of whom face heightened risks during the winter season.

Therefore, members of the public, clients and corporate partners were encouraged to support the initiative by donating clean, good-quality winter clothing, bedding and non-perishable food items at any SLB branch nationwide.

Collection points have been established in banking halls across the country to make donations easily accessible.

The bank is accepting items including coats, jackets, jerseys, trousers, socks, gloves, beanies, blankets, duvets, sleeping bags, maize meal, canned foods and other non-perishable groceries.

SLB said the Winter Drive has demonstrated the power of collective action, noting that beyond meeting immediate material needs, the initiative seeks to restore dignity, promote inclusion and strengthen community solidarity.

The bank said the campaign embodies its vision of creating shared value by empowering people and supporting communities beyond traditional banking services.

As it celebrates three decades of serving the Kingdom, the bank has called on every Mosotho to participate in this year’s Winter Drive and help make it its most impactful campaign to date.
