PUP San Ignacio-Santa Elena slate has no Councilor candidate from Santa Elena

By Zoila Palma:  The PUP’s municipal slate for San Ignacio and Santa Elena is taking shape following the party’s delegate convention, but the final lineup has no councilor candidate from Santa Elena.

The convention was held to select the councilor candidates who will join mayoral candidate Aaron Mai on the PUP’s slate for the 2027 municipal election. A total of 217 delegates and alternates cast ballots, representing a 100 percent turnout.

Edel Espat topped the polls with 194 votes, followed by Matthew Preston with 192, Joe Awe with 142, Nadime Hegar with 130, Eliu Yacab with 118 and Nazim Lisbey with 110.

Lisbey secured the final spot after a coin toss was used to break his tie with Danielle Rodriguez, who also received 110 votes.

The results mean that neither Danielle Rodriguez nor Omar Rodriguez, who were the candidates from Santa Elena, secured a place on the final municipal slate.

Omar Rodriguez received 66 votes, while Danielle Rodriguez tied with Lisbey at 110 but lost the deciding coin toss.

The PUP’s San Ignacio-Santa Elena team will therefore enter the 2027 municipal race without a councilor candidate from Santa Elena.
