By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a suspected case of arson after a vehicle was damaged by fire early Monday morning in Belize City.
At about 5:00 a.m. on August 31, police responded to Rasta Street, where they found a black 2011 Nissan Rogue with fire damage to its rear passenger compartment, including the rear seat and passenger-side window.
The vehicle’s owner, a 26-year-old security officer, told police that he had parked the SUV in front of his yard at about 9:00 p.m. Sunday before going to sleep.
Initial investigations indicate that at approximately 4:15 a.m. Monday, a grey Caravan van without licence plates arrived in the area. Shortly afterward, the Nissan Rogue was seen engulfed in flames, and an individual was reportedly observed entering the Caravan before it sped away toward Central American Boulevard.
The Belize Fire Service extinguished the blaze. The value of the damage has not yet been determined.
Police are investigating.
