At least 28 pupils from King David Nursery and Primary School in Ndejje have been confirmed dead following a fatal road crash in Kapchorwa district as they returned from an educational tour to Sipi Falls.
The accident occurred at Chekwatit, involving a school bus that was transporting the pupils back from the trip. Authorities said the vehicle was carrying learners and school staff at the time of the crash, although the exact cause of the accident had not yet been established by press time.
Health officials and local leaders confirmed that several other pupils sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities for emergency treatment. The injured were admitted to Kaseremu Health Centre IV and Kapchorwa Health Centre IV.
Emergency responders, including police and residents, worked to retrieve victims from the wreckage as the scale of the tragedy unfolded. Witnesses described chaotic scenes at the accident site, with rescue teams racing against time to save those trapped in the bus.
