Myra Gold Enters a New Era With Sophomore Album “Alchemy”

Rising South African artist, Myra Gold enters a new chapter with the release of Alchemy, a seven-track Afro-Pop and Afro-Beats album that captures the artist in a deeply personal period of emotional and creative growth. The project explores love, desire, vulnerability, confidence and the ongoing process of learning to surrender without losing oneself.

Built over two years of writing, production and recording, Alchemy is a reflection of where Myra Gold finds herself in real time. Across the project, she allows different sides of herself to exist without contradiction, moving between intimacy and confidence, sensuality and self-reflection, playfulness and cultural reconnection.

“This album is a reflection of where I am emotionally and creatively right now. It’s about love, desire, vulnerability, confidence and learning to surrender without losing myself,” says Myra Gold.

The album represents a continuation of Myra Gold’s artistic evolution rather than a departure from what came before. With every new song, she moves closer to a sound and form of expression that feels instinctive and honest, allowing the music to reflect her experiences without over-polishing them.

“It is a continuation of the work, but this music feels closer to home,” she explains. “The more I write, the more it hits the sweet spot of how I would like to express in real time.”

That immediacy is also reflected in the way Alchemy was created. Rather than beginning from a rigid songwriting formula, Myra Gold draws from moments as they happen, transforming impulses, conversations, reflections and dreams into songs. Experiences from real life become the starting point before being translated into instruments and melodies, with the production process taking shape afterwards.

Recorded at Spaan Hub Studios in Gqeberha, Alchemy brings together producers and musicians including Muzz, Mthokozisi Mabuza, Alungile Lamani and Mandilakhe Chaga. The collaborative process helped translate Myra Gold’s intimate writing into an Afro-Pop and Afro-Beats sound that retains its emotional centre while giving each song room to develop its own identity.

Every song on the album carries personal significance. Selected from a much larger body of material created during the two-year process, the final seven tracks represent the songs Myra Gold felt best captured the world she was building.

“Every single one of them was meaningful and challenging,” she says. “These songs have been chosen from quite a number of songs.”

With Alchemy, Myra Gold turns two years of lived experience, writing and creative experimentation into a body of work that feels intimate without being insular. Afro-Pop and Afro-Beats provide the musical foundation, while her writing gives the project its emotional weight, allowing desire, vulnerability, confidence and cultural identity to occupy the same space. The result is an album about transformation in its most personal form.
