Jorge Rosales defeats Jenny Martinez in PUP convention in Benque Viejo

By Zoila Palma:  Incumbent Benque Viejo del Carmen Mayor Jorge Rosales has retained his position as the PUP’s mayoral candidate after narrowly defeating Jenny Martinez at Sunday’s PUP convention.

Rosales secured 458 votes, edging Martinez, who received 449 votes.

Among those present was former PUP area representative Jorge “Milin” Espat.

Espat expressed disappointment with the convention process, particularly the disqualification of two candidates from Martinez’s team.

“The people are displeased with the representation of the town,” Espat said during an interview.

Espat also questioned the decision to disqualify the two candidates, arguing that voters should have been given the opportunity to choose from all eligible candidates.

“I am very unhappy that there were two teams and two candidates for Team Jenny were disqualified, and I do believe it’s supposed to be a choice for the people, give the people a choice and an opportunity to select the candidates that will represent them,” he stated.

Espat also said he was also disappointed with the turnout.

 “I am very displeased that the internal problems of the party, I would like to say, bring us to this. For me, it’s a very low turnout,” he said.

Rosales now moves forward as the PUP’s mayoral candidate for Benque Viejo del Carmen.
