By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A quick trip to buy dinner turned into a police matter for an Independence Village man, after his young grandson called to report that a relative had walked onto the family veranda and made off with a box of green bananas.
According to the Belize Police Department, a 50-year-old manager of Independence Village reported that on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., he left his home to purchase food at a restaurant in the New Site area of the village.
While at the restaurant, he received a phone call from his 12-year-old grandson, who informed him that a man, a relative of the complainant’s wife whom he has known for approximately twenty years, had entered his veranda and stolen a box of green bananas valued at $15.
The man told police he did not give anyone permission to remove the box of bananas, and he requested court action.
A 25-year-old unemployed man of Independence Village was detained in connection with the report. As he has not been formally charged, his identity is being withheld.
The matter remains under investigation.
