A 25-year-old international patient has recovered following a major neurosurgical procedure in Saint Lucia, after travelling to the island in search of specialised care, officials said.
Recurrent seizures and severe headaches forced the patient to stop working and seek help. Chief Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr Curby Dwaine Sydney of Cana Neuro Services led the surgery and developed the treatment plan, the company said.
At Tapion Hospital, Dr Sydney and his team performed a brain tumour resection, completely removing the tumour and successfully treating the condition.
In addition to medical planning, Cana Neuro Services coordinated the patient’s care, assisted with travel arrangements, and provided post-surgery follow-up. Close collaboration with the patient and his family, whose nationality was not disclosed, ensured a smooth process from arrival through to recovery.
Cana Neuro Services reports the patient recovered smoothly, with no neurological complications. He was discharged free of seizures and headaches, able to resume daily activities.
During recovery, the patient expressed gratitude to the medical team for their care and support. His sister, a nurse, said it was reassuring and emotional to see him awake, alert and fully mobile just hours after the procedure.
To date, Cana Neuro Services says it has treated well over 300 international patients.
