Flawless Mayo assumes Pro Tee lead

Uganda Pro Open champion Ronald Rugumayo was in fine form on Day Three of the MTN Pro Tee at Entebbe Golf Club.

Mayo oblitrated the par-71 course, carding a magificent 8-under 63 to climb atop the leaderboard from 4 shots back ahead of Friday’s final round.

The flawless, history-making performance featured 8 birdies in what was the best ball-striking round on the course.

Despite starting even on the par-5 Hole1, Rugumayo had a legendary front-nine 30 featuring a birdie-birdie-birdie streak from hole 5 through to 7.

“In the first two rounds I was struggling metally because I found it hard to shut down each and everything that happeened last week. I still had that excitement [of winning the Uganda Open] in the fisrt two rounds,” Rugumayo, who returned 70 and 71 in the first two rounds, said.

“Iplayed somesmart golf today; my tee shots were on point, my tee to green was on point and I converted some unbelieveable putts,” he summed up his game.

With a total of 9-under 204, Rugumayo has a one-shot lead over leg one winner Abraham Ainamani and two ahead of Rodell Gaita.

Rugumayo will duel Ainamani and Gaita on the final day for the lion’s share of 20 million shillings.
