A building on Old Parham Road was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Thursday, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police Lester Bagot.
The St John’s Fire Station received a call at 1:07 a.m. reporting that a building opposite the M&M Service Station was ablaze. Fire crews from three stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to ASP Bagot, the No. 19 Fire Tender from St John’s Fire Station, the No. 21 Fire Tender from Coolidge Fire Station, and the No. 18 Fire Tender from All Saints Fire Station all responded to the call.
On arrival, firefighters found the building fully engulfed in flames, ASP Bagot said. Crews used water from the tenders to bring the fire under control and extinguish it.
The building, along with its contents, was destroyed. It measured 40 by 50 feet and was undergoing repairs at the time of the fire, according to ASP Bagot.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident and no further details on the cause have been released.
Meanwhile, The Antigua and Barbuda Fire Brigade is investigating the origin of the fire, ASP Bagot said.
