The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is warning consumers of a fake account on social platform TikTok that is advising them to pay their water bills via Pay Pal.
In a statement tonight, the BWA said account Barbados Water Works (@246bwa) which is being circulated is not a legitimate even though it could appear so.
“This account in fact, features the Barbados Water Authority logo and footage taken from the Authority’s legitimate social media pages and reuses the material in a dangerous and malicious manner,” the statement said.
“The information being shared on this platform indicating that persons can pay their water bills via Pay Pal is also false.”
Currently, BWA uses RBC Royal Bank, Scotiabank, CIBC Caribbean, Republic Bank, First Citizens Bank and SurePay for payments.
BWA is urging anyone who comes across the fake account to report it as harmful misinformation. (PR/SAT)
