In a dramatic escalation of its anti-corruption drive, the Inspector General of Government (IGG) has arrested eight senior staff members of Parliament of Uganda, including Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Chris Obore, over alleged corruption-related offences.
The arrests stem from an ongoing IGG investigation into suspected financial and administrative irregularities within Parliament. However, authorities have remained tight-lipped on the exact charges, with details still emerging.
Those picked up include Chris Obore (Director of Communications and Public Affairs), Daniel Adilo (Director of Human Resource), Leonard Okema (Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker), Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu (Principal Research Officer), Emmanuel Okwi Emuron (Principal Protocol Officer), Methoda Murebe (CEO of the Parliamentary SACCO), Stella Itute (Personal Assistant), and Vincent Otebata (Capacity Development Officer).
Sources indicate the suspects are expected to face court later today as investigations widen and more names could reportedly be under scrutiny.
The IGG has not yet released an official breakdown of the allegations, leaving the country awaiting further details on what could be one of Parliament’s most significant internal crackdowns in recent times.
